Success Stories

“I joined Hockey Mentors at the start of the project and have enjoyed every aspect of it. I have met and played with some great players, mentors and coaches. I have been offered amazing support, this has included individual mentoring from experienced players, to guide me through the next stage of my development, been made captain of the team and assistance with university applications. All this has increased my confidence, improved my skills and grown my love for hockey.”

Archie Crowley (England U18)

Hockey Mentors is an amazing programme which supports players to grow in an inclusive environment with great coaching and games. The camps are so much fun because you can improve as a player while doing drills that are unique and exciting. At camps you experience both on and off pitch sessions – the off pitch sessions are usually around team culture or personal development which everyone can find very useful, and the on pitch sessions are times to play at a high intensity and learn new skills improve with amazing coaches. This has helped me to improve technically and I have found it super helpful! The matches are great opportunities to play with other players from state schools around the country and make friends, as well benefit from great high-quality coaching!”

The online programme is a resource that can be used as required by players to improve their game. They include a number of coaching videos on technical skills and key decision making concepts by ex GB coach Jon Royce, which allows players to follow up camp themes post the camp. In addition the online programme also contains a number of interviews with high-level hockey players to get inspiration from their journey, as well as multiple other resources to help you improve your game. The online programme will be continually updated to keep it fresh and meaningful.

We define a junior performance player as a player who wants to improve their hockey and be exposed to a performance environment, which replicates a junior international environment as closely as possible. Players are generally county standard or above, with many players in Talent Academies or playing National League.

Ex GB Coach Jon Royce and HM Founder Jack Childs lead the overall content for the camps. They are supported by a range of Head Coaches, who have all generally at minimum been a Head Coach at National League level. Further support is provided by assistants (who are generally high-level players and HM alumni) and specialist GK coaches. Our GK coaching is overseen by ex New Zealand international coach Rod Journeaux, supported by leading GK coaching company Hero and other coaches.

The first three camps include indoor and outdoor hockey with the February camp being an indoor only hockey camp. We are huge fans of indoor hockey at HM, as we believe it helps technical development and being able to make decisions under pressure in tight spaces. The April camp is the only outdoor only camp.

There will be approx 50 extra spaces available on the 9th/10th August and 7th/8th April camps, for players that do not sign up to a package.

The online programme is only included with a package.

Applications open on Wednesday 10th April 2025 and close on Sunday 11th May 2025.

All applicants will be informed whether they have been successful W/C 12th May, with first payments due 1st June.
